Eric Benjaminson was a career diplomat from 1982-2013 and served as the U.S. Ambassador to Gabon and to Sao Tome & Principe. Eric also served in senior positions at the Embassies in Canada, Namibia, and Burkina Faso. He retired from the State Department in 2013. He subsequently served as the Senior Advisor for Global Partnerships at the University of Oregon (2013-2018) and as the Study Abroad Assistant Director for Safety & Health at the University of Chicago from 2018 until 2025. Eric has a B.A. degree in History and an M.A. with Distinction in Russian History from University of Oregon. His foreign languages are French and Russian. Eric is married to Lara Korobova and has two adult daughters.
